Week 3: Turkish Travels
Merhaba (Hello) from Turkey!
As is the Turkish custom, the kids were welcomed with a cup of apple tea. Then, after talking a little about this interesting country, we headed down to the kids' kitchen to whip up some hummus. It was delicious!
| Everyone enjoying the hummus they made. (Instead of saying "cheese" for the photo, the kids are all saying, "Turkey!") |
After our snack, we learned about the Turkish tradition of protecting against the "evil eye," and made our own amulets.

I had a great time with your kids! Looking forward to traveling to South America next week when we visit Peru.

Week 2: Happy Chinese New Year!
Ni Hao (Hello) from China!
Today we celebrated the Lunar New Year. After finding China on the map, we enjoyed a special snack (oranges and fortune cookies) and learned a little about Chinese culture. Then we made dragon puppets in honor of the Year of the Dragon.
After we finished our craft, we had a chopstick race with relay teams. Each team had to carry Cheerios from the starting line to the finish line using only chopsticks. It was tricky, but fun!
We finished our class with a dragon parade, showing off our new puppets. Here we are parading through the hallway:
Hope everyone had fun! See you next week when we will travel to Turkey.

Week 1: Preparing to Travel!
We had a fun first day getting to know each other and preparing for our upcoming travels! First we talked a little bit about our own country and what makes it special. We made trail mix to represent how many different kinds of people came together to make the United States. Then, we prepared our own passports for upcoming journeys. Take a look at some of our work:
Finally, we had a treasure hunt to find clues about what we would need to bring on our trip. Everyone did a great job working as a team.
Next week we're off to China to celebrate the Lunar New Year. Looking forward to Chinese games and a Dragon parade!
| Each week we'll stamp our passports for the country we visit. The kids will get to take the passports home at the end of the Extended Day Session. |
